The 13th SAIC (Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation) International Design Challenge kicked off at ECUST on March 29, bringing together hundreds of guests from academia and industry, along with faculty and student representatives from more than 20 universities, including Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The competition, themed “Innovative Expression in the Real World,” challenges young designers to connect creativity with practical industrial applications. Vice President of the University Council, Shen Haitao, emphasized ECUST’s dedication to fostering innovation, encouraging students to explore real-world possibilities and contribute to societal progress.

SAIC executives, including Yu Jingmin, highlighted the evolving role of designers in business and technology. The ceremony also celebrated last year’s winner, ECUST student Amierjiang Abulimiti, and his advisor Li Xuenan. Additionally, a landmark copyright-sharing agreement between SAIC and ECUST was signed, marking a significant milestone in industry-education collaboration.

This year’s challenge aims to push boundaries further, blending academic excellence with industrial vision for both ECUST and SAIC.
