On May 27, ECUST held an interactive experience activity of foil burning art, a traditional intangible cultural heritage. With a long history, foil burning is a time-honored traditional craft. By heating and oxidizing metal foil with sulfur, the craft produces gorgeous and vivid gilded hues. During the activity, international students created exclusive artworks of their own, gaining firsthand insight into the exquisite craftsmanship of this traditional art.
At the event, craft instructors briefly introduced the history and modern applications of foil burning, demonstrating how this traditional heritage blends seamlessly with modern life. They also gave step-by-step demonstrations of the whole creation process, including pattern sketching, gluing and pasting foil, trimming foil and applying sealant, and guided the students to master relevant skills.

Under the patient guidance of the instructors, the international students threw themselves into creation. They carefully drew patterns, attached metal foils and polished finished pieces, completing every procedure in good order. With creative ideas and full concentration, they produced a collection of shimmering unique works, truly experiencing the dedication and joy behind traditional craftsmanship.

Centered on immersive hands-on practice, this activity enabled international students to learn about fine traditional Chinese culture and appreciate the charm of oriental aesthetics, further deepening their understanding and recognition of Chinese culture. It has boosted the development of a diverse campus culture, and effectively promoted cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and foreign countries.
