ECUST International Students Watched Hit Animated Film Ne Zha II
06 Apr 2025

On March 18, ECUST’s College of International Education hosted a special cultural event for 80 international students: a screening of the highly anticipated Chinese animated film Ne Zha II, the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster.

“This is one of my favorite movies! The visuals and story of Ne Zha II are groundbreaking,” said Sami from Bangladesh. Students enthusiastically discussed their favorite characters, from the fiery hero Ne Zha to the complex Dragon King.

To deepen their appreciation, the college arranged a pre-screening visit to the Shanghai Film Museum, where students explored the history and evolution of Chinese animation. “Through Ne Zha II, we see how tradition inspires innovation,” said Li Xiaopeng, Dean of the College of International Education.

As a major animated hit from China, Ne Zha II achieved remarkable international success, earning ¥356 million overseas and becoming one of the highest-grossing Chinese animations worldwide. Its unique blend of Chinese mythology and modern animation has captivated global audiences and paved the way for more Chinese animated films to reach international markets.
