Recently a delegation led by Dean Li Xiaopeng of the College of International Education at East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) visited Madrid, Barcelona, and Monaco to promote academic exchange and international student recruitment.
Engaging with Top Secondary Schools
The delegation visited Colegio Joyfe in Madrid, as well as the International School of Monaco. During these visits, they introduced ECUST’s flagship Joint MultiDegree (JMD) Programme, which offers Englishtaught undergraduate pathways leading to dual bachelor’s degrees from ECUST and its partner universities worldwide. Information sessions were also held on scholarship opportunities, STEM summer programmes, and student life in Shanghai. These interactions have laid the groundwork for longterm student pipeline collaborations.

Advancing University Partnerships
In Barcelona, the delegation met with representatives of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) to discuss potential 2+2 dualdegree arrangements in fields such as International Economics and Trade, Artificial Intelligence, and Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering. Both sides agreed to continue curriculum mapping and work toward a memorandum of understanding. A similar exchange took place with the University of Monaco (IUM) , where flexible pathways including 2+1 and 1+1+1 models, as well as semesterbased exchanges, were explored. ECUST also invited IUM students to apply for the Advanced Innovative Talents (AIT) Summer Workshop.

Outcomes and Next Steps
This visit resulted in several concrete outcomes, including initial agreements with three secondary schools and two universities. ECUST will continue to follow up on curriculum alignment, scholarship provisions, and the signing of formal cooperation agreements. These efforts are expected to increase the number of highquality applicants from Spain and Monaco, reinforcing ECUST’s commitment to global engagement.
