ECUST’s innovative approach to bringing Chinese and international students together has received national recognition, highlighting the University’s commitment to creating an inclusive and engaging learning experience for students from around the world.
Recently, the College of International Education (CIE) was selected for the 2026 “Study in China” National Best Practices in International Student Education and Management. Its initiative, “Courses as the Foundation, Student Clubs as the Bridge, and Practice Bases as the Platform: Building an Integrated Ecosystem for Cultural Integration between Chinese and International Students,” was recognized in the category of cultural integration.
Organized by the international student education and management branch of the China Association of Higher Education, the national selection attracted 393 submissions from 155 universities across China. Following expert review, 265 cases from 131 universities were selected. The recognized initiatives will also be included in a national collection of best practices for international student education.
At ECUST, cultural integration goes beyond occasional events. CIE has developed an integrated model connecting academic courses, student clubs and real-world cultural experiences. Through this approach, international and Chinese students can learn together in the classroom, connect through student-led activities, and explore Chinese society and culture through practice-based experiences.
The model follows a simple but meaningful journey: learn in class, engage through clubs, and experience through practice. By connecting these three dimensions, students move beyond simply learning about another culture toward building friendships, developing mutual understanding, and creating shared experiences and values.
The national recognition reflects ECUST’s continued efforts to enhance the quality of international education and build a truly intercultural campus. Looking ahead, CIE will continue expanding opportunities for Chinese and international students to learn from one another, explore local culture, and develop the intercultural skills needed to thrive in an increasingly connected world.
