At the invitation of Saudi Aramco, ECUST University Council President Jiang Chuanhai and Vice President Zhu Weihong attended the company’s first-ever Global Board Reception in Beijing on May 9. The event, themed “Prosperity in Partnership,” brought together distinguished guests including Saudi Aramco Chairman Yasir O. Al-Rumayyan, board members, provincial leaders from across China, representatives from top Chinese universities, and executives from leading corporations.

During the reception, Professor Jiang and Professor Zhu met with Chairman Al-Rumayyan. As the sole university delegation from Shanghai, Professor Jiang highlighted ECUST’s strong commitment to collaborating with Saudi Aramco. He noted that ECUST is the largest Chinese university hosting Saudi Aramco-sponsored students. Professor Jiang reaffirmed the university’s dedication to providing high-quality international education to cultivate engineering talents and promote cultural exchange between China and Saudi Arabia. Chairman Al-Rumayyan praised ECUST’s important role in Aramco’s talent development program and expressed his eagerness to expand and deepen cooperation. Professor Jiang presented Chairman Al-Rumayyan with a group photo and handwritten thank-you letters from all Aramco-sponsored students at ECUST.

Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia’s national oil company, is one of the world’s largest integrated oil, gas, and chemicals corporations, ranking 4th on the 2024 Fortune Global 500 list. ECUST has actively responded to Aramco’s talent needs by establishing a joint university-enterprise program to train elite chemical engineers who are proficient in Chinese and familiar with Chinese culture. Currently, 51 Aramco-sponsored students study at ECUST — the highest number among all Chinese universities.
