In September, East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) welcomed more than 600 new international students for the 2026 Fall Semester, with degree students making up more than half of the new intake. During Welcome Week, the College of International Education (CIE) organized registration and orientation sessions, a “One Day in Shanghai” city walk and ice-breaking activities, helping newcomers get to know ECUST, Shanghai and one another.

Getting Ready for the Semester
Orientation sessions were organized to introduce academic arrangements, campus services, student regulations and safety information, helping new students prepare for the semester ahead and become more familiar with university life.
As part of the welcome programme, students also joined the “One Day in Shanghai” city walk, offering them an opportunity to explore the city and become more familiar with their new surroundings.

Ice-breaking Day
On 11 September, new students came together for a series of ice-breaking activities. Through team games and group interaction, they had the chance to get to know one another in a relaxed and lively setting.
The activities encouraged communication and teamwork among students from different cultural backgrounds, helping them build new connections and take their first steps into the international community at ECUST.
